Biographical

In his 40 years trying complex commercial cases, Neal has represented clients in a variety of areas of law, including employment, securities, intellectual property, renewable energy, trust and estates, and natural resources. His practice focuses on high-stakes litigation in state and federal district and appeals courts, as well as arbitration, throughout the United States.

Neal counsels clients to avoid litigation through both informal and formal dispute resolution practice.  He has a wealth of experience in this regard; for example obtaining a favorable settlement of over $100 million for minority shareholders asserting claims of shareholder oppression in a multibillion-dollar privately held corporation, being part of the pro bono team that assisted the ACLU in obtaining a $41 million settlement with the State of Colorado to treat Colorado prisoners with chronic hepatitis C, winning an arbitration award of over $25 million for a minority member of a limited liability corporation in a dispute over the duties of an oil and gas operator and its obligations to the minority members, and the successful arbitration for a client  asserting claims of misappropriation of trade secrets involving extraction and purification processes for the commercial production of a cancer-fighting agent worth over $25 million.

Neal has recently served as a member of a three-person arbitration panel for a dispute involving solution mining and the formation of a multi-acre sinkhole in which the arbitration Hearing lasted 37 days and the total amount in controversy between claims, counter-claims and non-monetary relief amounted to nearly $1 billion.  Neal has also served as the sole arbitrator on several matters.  In addition, Neal has years of  arbitration and mediation experience as an advocate for his clients.

Neal served as office managing partner when Fox Rothschild expanded into Denver in 2012. Prior to that, he was a partner at Bryan Cave and Faegre & Benson. Neal served on the board of directors for the Colorado IP American Inn of Court.

When he was much younger, he was a member of the U.S. National Fencing Team, having competed in the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in 1975 and winning two Gold medals and one Bronze medal in the U.S. National Championships.
